Marlen I. Vasquez
Μarlen I. Vasquez has a B.Sc.in Biology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an M.Sc. in Environment and Development, National Technical University of Athens and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, University of Cyprus. She has worked in a consulting company in the Dominican Republic (2002-2003), at an NGO in Cyprus (2003), at the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health (2004-2009) and at the GAIA Laboratory of Environmental Engineering (2006-2012) and the NIREAS International Water Research Center of the University of Cyprus (2012-2015). From September 2012, she is working at the Department of Science and Technology of the Cyprus University of Technology as a Special Teaching Staff in Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology.
- Assessment of ecological status using traditional bioindicators and advanced molecular tools (barcoding, metabarcoding, metagenomics)
- Assessment of the environmental toxicity using traditional bioassays and developing novel and sensitive endpoints at the molecular level
- Isolation of microorganisms with biotechnological applications on decontamination from xenobiotics
- Assessment of the efficiency treatment technologies (biological and advanced oxidation) on the removal of biological potency on biological systems
- Water quality issues (freshwater, drinking water, bathing water and reclaimed wastewater)
