Elena Panayiotou has been a Special Teaching Staff at the Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Nursing, since 2008. She earned a Diploma in General Nursing from the Nursing School of Cyprus (1996), a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science (2006) and a Master's degree in Bioethics and Medical Law (2007) both from University of Central Lancashire in United Kingdom.

She has several years of clinical experience as Nursing Officer in numerous departments in General Nursing.

Ioanna Ellina is a member of Scientific Teaching Staff in the Nursing Department since 2009. She has a diploma in General Nursing in Nursing and Midwifery School, Nicosia, Cyprus (1996), Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Nursing Science (Anglia Polytechnic University in the United Kingdom -1997) and Master of Atrium on Health Services Management (Open University of Cyprus - 2012). Since 2016 she is a PhD candidate student in the School of Nursing at the Cyprus University of Technology.

She worked as a Nursing Officer in public hospitals in Nicosia (1997 - 2002). Between 2002-2009 she worked as a clinical trainer and teacher at the Nursing and Midwifery School of Cyprus. Since 2009 she works as a Scientific Teaching Staff for the BSc nursing program at the Department of Nursing, CUT. Subjects related to her teaching experience are Anatomy &Physiology, Surgical Nursing and Fundamentals in Nursing. Additionally she is a supervisor nurse instructor for the clinical practice of students.

Her research interests focus in the field of Nursing Education-Clinical Education & Clinical Learning Environment.

Research

Her research interests focus in the field of Nursing Education – Clinical Learning Environment and Supervision of Undergraduate Nursing Students. Her research work focuses on the comparison and correlation of the attitudes and perceptions of undergraduate nursing students in Cyprus and Greece in relation to the clinical learning environment. She has published a chapter in a Greek book related to the concept of clinical education and the clinical learning environment. She is a speaker at national and international conferences.

She ıs working in the Nursing Department of TEPAK as Special Scientific Staff in the Nursing Department since 2010. Teaching focuses on the subject of the Fundamentals of Nursing in the Undergraduate Program. She ıs involved in both theoretical and laboratory teaching as well as clınıcal supervısıon and teachıng . She holds a first degree in Nursing from South Bank University, UK and a postgraduate degree from the Open University of Cyprus in Health Unit Management and PhD on Patient Safety in undergraduate nursing education.

She worked as a nursing officer in various clinical environment in the pediatric departments for 8 years, and since 2000 she works exclusively in nursing education.

Her research ınterest focus on undergraduate nursing education, patient safety and the problem of omissions of nursing activities. In addition. Also she participates in the working group of the European program COST CA15208 - RANCARE and the Erasmus + Tender4Life research project.

She has publications in scientific journals and many presentations at local and international conferences. Her publications mainly concern nurses’ undergraduate education in both in theoretical and clinical setting in the area of patient safety and rationing of nursing care

Christos Andreou

Christos Andreou is a Senior Nursing Officer and currently works as nurse educator in the Nursing Department, Faculty of Health Sciences at Cyprus University of Technology. He received his PhD on the exploration of individual learning styles and critical thinking among undergraduate nursing students as well as the relationships between those variables. His qualifications also include Master of Atrium on Health Services Management, Bachelor of Science (Hons) on Nursing Science, Diploma on Nursing Administration and Certified on Erasmus Intensive Programme Empowering learning environments in Nursing Εducation.

He was the Chief Editor of the national scientific journal Cyprus Nursing Chronicles since 2000 until 2015. He served as General Secretary and member of Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Association Board of Directors for the period 2000-2015 and as a member of the National Bioethics Committee for the period 2011-2015. He currently serves as a member of the National Review Bioethics Committee for Biomedical Research on Human Being and their biological substances and the clinical trials on Medicinal Products of Human Use.

He served as a clinical nurse for 8 years in Surgical, Urological and Intensive Care Unit. Since 2003 is working as nurse educator in baccalaureate nursing. His principal goal is to teach in line within the principles of adult learning, evidence-based practice and individualized approach of students towards potential achievements of learning outcomes. Subjects regards his classroom teaching experience refer to Fundamentals in Nursing, Nursing Administration, Surgical Nursing and Urological Nursing. Since 2010 is mainly a laboratory instructor on Nursing Fundamentals and Supervisor nurse instructor for the clinical education of students.

His main research areas concern the theory-practice gap in Nursing and topics related on teaching, learning and critical thinking development within undergraduate nursing education. He has published articles at national and international level related with the concept of critical thinking in Nursing, the individual learning styles, the critical thinking and its relationship in baccalaureate nursing education as well as a methodological study on the adaptation and the validation of the Learning Style Inventory Version III in Greek language. He currently researched focused on the potential optimization of the learning achievements and the critical thinking development among undergraduate nursing students. He is a reviewer in several peer-reviewed international journals and a speaker in national and international conferences.
