Representations of the Crisis in the News Representations of the Crisis in the News
Coordinator: Vaia Doudaki
This research project studies the media’s representations of the financial crises in Greece and in Cyprus, focusing on how the domestic legacy press framed the discussion on the bailout agreements the two countries signed with the troika. The analysis points to a restrictive, fragmented, decontextualised discourse, where critical elements of the issue are omitted and where governmental and troika policies are legitimized by the media coverage of the bailout-related news through a set of discursive mechanisms.
